Jun Yue from BeaniPet.com shares with us her love for sewing…

Let’s meet Jun Yue, an illustrator and self-taught sewing artist who spends most of her time doodling and sewing her ideas to life.
Tell us about beanipet.com
“BeaniPet blog started on October 24th 2008 as a place for me to express my DIY handmade ideas. I thought it’d be cool if I were able to create something out of my drawings/doodlings. I think sewing is one of the best medium/tool for me to turn my cute animal doodles to life. So I just went with it and got myself a small sewing machine and self taught myself how to sew. That’s how I sewed my very first pillow Bear Bear I never stopped sewing ever since. In September 2009 I went from a part-time hobby business to full-time handmade career!”
What are you trying to tell people with your art?
“Definitely love, joy, passion and hope. It’s not only telling but I also hope that they can feel it just by looking through my blog and hugging or wearing my Beanie creations! I just love to know that people are happy when they see my work!”
What do you like best about DIY?
“Oh, the best thing would be the word “unique”. I believe that every piece of handmade item is only one in the world with a little you in it. It can never be replaced, duplicated or reproduced. That’s really awesome isn’t it?!”
Where do you get your inspiration for your accessories?
“I designed my accessories collection because I had always wanted to own a piece of accessory like those but I just couldn’t purchase it in the market. So I designed it myself. My accessories are lady like and inspired by Victorian style, elegance, sophisticated and simplicity. At times I also have the occasional cute and girly version of accessories.”
What are your favourite colours, fabrics and patterns to work with?
“I like to work with pastel, muted and vintage colours. I love cotton and linen fabrics and sometimes I also use canvas fabrics but mainly cotton and linen especially if it’s raw and unbleache. Pattern swould be lots of florals, lace and cute animal illustrations too.”
