This month, Kerina Francis tells us about her job with Women's Aid Organisation (WAO).

You could have chosen to stay a volunteer, why do it full time instead?
Kerina : I worked in a law firm for eight months. I didn't want to be part of it as I felt that certain laws just weren't right. Being an activist, I am able to voice my opinions on laws that I feel deserve amendments for the benefit of the society.

Do you think that your law qualifications are applicable to what you are doing now?
Kerina : Having a background in law has certainly helped me to understand the issues better. However, you don't need a law qualification to advocate for women's rights.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?
Kerina : I work with a lot of people who have been with the organisation for a very long time. As a newcomer, you can feel a little inadequate. No doubt, there is a lot of support. The biggest challenge for me has been to proactively improve myself and maintain the standards of my predecessors.
